Silverado Fuel Gauge Erratic. the fuel gauge seemed to be working properly when i bought it, but recently has started giving me fits. The sending unit is part of the fuel pump so a purchased a new fuel pump, lifted off the bed to access the top of the gas. at work i drove a 2006 2500hd silverado. the truck ran fine in spite of the fuel gauge. turn the ignition switch on. the fuel level may not be showing up correctly and/or acting erratic but mostly the gauge needles twitches or. i have a 2000 silverado 4.3l and just recently the fuel gauge will drop all the way to empty or half a tank while im. erratic fuel gauge operation on chevrolet silverado 1500.
